5 Fishing Hot Spots Australia
A couple of days ago a mate asked me what I would pick as the fishing hot spots Australia and I had to really think about that one. With so many exciting fishing destinations dotting the shores of Australia, naming just a few is not that easy.
To me, almost every inch of Australia is angler’s paradise and every area promises a different thrill. Gold Coast fishing or Exmouth fishing offers a complete different experience from Perth fishing. Which one’s better? It’s hard to say. To me, every day out fishing is an adventure!
Well, the question got me thinking anyway and to me these would easily qualify as the top 5 fishing hot spots Down Under.
Fraser Island - Recreational Fishing
Located at the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef, Fraser Island is hands down the absolute best beach fishing destination in the world. Any time of the year is a good time for fishing at Fraser Island with the beaches and lakes brimming with an array of fish varieties including the tailor, which is the most sought after. Other fish species include flathead, bream, jewfish, dart and whiting.
Ranked among the top ten important fishing lakes and the best one in Australia, Lake Awoonga is renowned for its fantastic Barramundi fishing. As if that wasn’t enough, over 300,000 fish are released into this lake every year and because of the lack of predators, these fish grow to a rather impressive size. With lots of excitement in store, it’s no surprise that Lake Awoonga is a regular feature on any fisherman’s list of fishing hot spots Australia.
Another popular fishing destination, the Grampian region offers spectacular year round fishing opportunities and diverse species of freshwater fish from silver perch, rainbow and brown trout to yellow belly, cod and redfin. You just never know what’s going to bite the bait when you cast out a line in the Grampian waters.
Balonne River in St. George
There are several very productive fishing spots along the Balonne River. Cast out a line at any spot along the riverbank and you are sure to go home with a catch worth bragging about. Some of the varieties you will find are the silver perch, golden perch, yellow belly and murray cod.
Lord Howe Island
Teeming with marine life, Lord Howe Island is a world class fishing destination. Very few places offer you the opportunity to indulge in so many different types of fishing in one location. At Lord Howe Island, every fishing expedition is different as you explore the thrills of deep reef fishing, game fishing, lagoon fishing and coastal fishing!
It’s not easy narrowing down the fishing hot spots Australia to a limited number but these 5 sure made the grade in terms of variety of fish, amount of fish and diversity of fishing experiences they offer.
